Indian Head Massage and Reflexology

Reflexology

Reflexology is an extremely effective form of massage, the basis of which relates to "reflex points" on the sole of the foot. These "points" coincide with each organ and system in the body and are linked to those organs by "energy channels", "zones" or "meridians". When illness, or imbalance, occurs the corresponding "energy channels" become blocked.
Reflexology will reduce stress and tension in the individual, improve circulation and cleanse the body of toxins and impurities. It is also renowned for revitalisation of energy and is often used as a preventative healthcare. It encourages a state of homeostasis where all the systems of the body are in balance and the body can heal and rejuvenate itself efficiently - this pleasing therapy will help to balance your whole system.

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a holistic treatment, which takes the view that the feet – and hands – work as maps of the body's state of health and well being.
Reflexology practitioners divide the feet into zones that run from the toes, to the brain, through different parts of the body. There are ten vertical zones, or energy lines – and as pressure is applied to the feet, these lines are stimulated so that the energy is able to flow. Some Western doctors believe that reflexology is nothing more than a relaxing foot massage, but it's a widespread practice across Asia, and much of Chinese Medicine is based on these 'lines of energy' in the body.

What to expect from a treatment

The overall aim of reflexology is to create balance in the body, by calming and detoxifying. This, in turn, eases stress levels and creates a feeling of deep relaxation. Uric acid crystals which accumulate around the nerve endings in the feet are broken down and flushed out with the increased circulation and boosted lymphatic system. The nervous, endocrine (hormonal), digestive and respiratory systems are all soothed or stimulated depending on need.

Expect to feel slightly spaced-out and very relaxed after a treatment. Also make sure to drink plenty of water, as you may develop a headache or lethargic feelings. These should soon pass, and you'll feel lighter, more refreshed and better aware of your body's physical and mental state.
